This is a painting I did for a gallery a couple of years ago. The gallery was having a combination booksigning/art show where each artist was to paint something from the novel. The trouble for me was I had no interest in reading a historical romance, so the gallery owner suggested I paint the two pugs the main character of the book owned. I "Googled" pugs and Victorian furniture and this is what I came up with for a composition. I chose these pugs for their expressions. I just love them! Overall I was pretty pleased with the painting. A lady from San Jose bought it because she loved the dogs...and she doesn't even own pugs!
Happy Animal Wednesday friends!
I would have bought this in a minute! I am a total Pug lover, and had a Pug as a kid. Wonderful dogs, great with kids and families and fat enought to be rather placid, but fun enought to jump around. My brother has one now, and in his town they have "pug day competitions" where they all pretend the pugs are atheletes and make them chase balls and jump over swimming pool plastic noodles! Such fun..
ReplyDeleteGreat painting - you win Animal Wednesday kudos!
Pugs are wonderful dogs-and you are right, most expressive. That's why I think Greta is part pug, but maybe she's just a very soulful full blooded chi..(I loathe that expression-trying to use it so I will quit reacting so strongly to it-it isn't working-I shuddered).
ReplyDeleteOMG, you are killing me with these pugs! They are the cutest pugs in the world! Amazing how you can paint such a gorgeous scene and still have me cracking up. You're good kid.
ReplyDeleteWow! I love this painting. The shapes, colors, and composition are all great. Oh, and the dogs are pretty cute too.

ReplyDeleteWow, such a dignified pug painting. This is very nice. I can see why it sold. Your composition and colors are wonderful, as usual, and the dogs really look at home in their surroundings. I can tell you are a very sensitive animal lover.

ReplyDeleteYou are very talented!
These pugs look so real. The wrinkles in their fur look so touchable. They would definitely be right up on the furniture too if they got the chance.
