This is a painting I did a couple of years ago in my very first studio. It was a musty old place with too many spiders in the back of someone's home. But it was my space and I came to love it. One spring I watched a little sparrow carry pieces of straw and other things to help build his nest. I was doing a lot of trompe l'oeil in those days, so I thought how wonderful it would be to paint a bird making an offering to a painted nest because he thought it was real! This is how it turned out. That's also the brush and paint cloth I used that I added to the picture. One of my husband's co-workers bought it for his wife who collects bird paintings. I kind of miss this one because it was a little personal, but it sure makes me happy to share my art. Happy Animal Wednesday...and yay spring!!
Hey thanks for your comments on my sheep painting this morning. I am not quite happy with it and now I know why. I forgot about the lavenders and blues. Thanks. I know everyone is saying they are liking the painting but it isnt working for me for probably that reason. Thanks mucho. I will give it a try. Love your blog. Will be visiting it again. Love this painting too as I love birds and feed tons of them daily. :)

This is absolutely gorgeous, and I love the story behind it. I can understand how tough it must be to part with something personal, but I'm sure that gives it even more value to the fortunate person who has it now...
ReplyDeleteThe concept, having the bird offer another piece of nesting material to the painting, is marvelous. :)
ReplyDeletei like the fact that you've written the word 'nest' for everyone to see, just in case they don't know what it is.
