Having raven as my totem keeps me grounded,
yet it also gives me wings to fly.
This was a fun exercise today. I scanned and printed a random old photograph (copyright free image) and printed it in sepia on a paper bag. I could barely make out the image, but then I took out my colored pencils and began to make her come to life. I then (for the first time) used oil pastels for a creamier mix and highlights. It was fun to finally create something, anything again.
As this economy continues to crush me and Bri, I look around and still see abundance.
My art supplies, for one.
Friends, of course.
A roof (for now!)
And although my hours have been cut back, I still have a job.
Now if only Bri could find one.
I do believe these very wings will lift me out of this.

ReplyDeleteits a lovely image - and i love the smoothness of the pastels - brave lady.
ReplyDeleteDidn't know your hours had been cut back and am sad that Bri can't find something. Friends have said that it is better out there, so keep up your hopes.
xoxo
This week's IF prompt is perfect for you!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful, and a very strong image. Here's hoping for better days for you! xox
ReplyDeleteSo creative, lo. You've created her emotions so deeply. I don't think i trust those wings, though; maybe a steady utility vehicle that drives through wind and storms...
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for you and Brian. The economy is improving finally and there are more jobs finally. Don't forget the state Career Center! it is often a helpful resource.
money worries are so hard :-( but step by step things will get better
Love

beautiful image you created. So happy to know you did some art and Wow!
ReplyDeleteThese worries are terrible..... wish I could help.... I will keep my fingers crossed for Bri. That would solve a lot I think.
But I am happy to hear in the comments things are brightening up over there...... I hope something will happen soon. I know you know how to cope but I have something else in mind for you ......
Take care!

I love Marianne's comment.

You are a real *Magician* when it comes to your paper bag images... I love to see how your mind and fingers combine to create such beauty.
ReplyDeleteI hope that things in the work field do ease up for you and Bri... (you know I KNOW) Here on the West Coast, jobs (particularly for those of us over 50) are non-existent...but....still, one must keep trying.
I hope your weather warms up...this will help - at least mentally....life always looks brighter when one isn't shivering with cold. We both must use Short-y as our example of strength and courage!
Love to all,
♥ Robin ♥
Lovely work of Art. Some how Art keeps us from going totally crazy. The times are tough for everyone right now but I hope things let up for you both soon. Hugs
ReplyDeleteBeautifully expressive!
ReplyDeleteI like your words and image! I'm praying and hoping for your economic recovery. It's hard to be in a financial slump. I do love the image of raven flying high above it all, with that mountain top view. Helps to realize the day-to-day worries we have are temporary. Good luck to you both!
ReplyDeleteGreat illo!So powerfull:)
ReplyDeleteJust came by to say hi!
ReplyDeleteWishing you only the best sweet Laurel. May your wings continue to lift your spirit...I will continue to hold you in my heart. xo
ReplyDeleteLo, I have tried several times to leave a comment, I will try one more time and see if blogger will let me.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry about you hours being cut, but I believe trust is the word I will give you today. After not working for almost 3 weeks and having a car repair, magically I was okay, taken care of. I have learned money does not come from a job, it comes from source, spirit. There is always plenty if we do not worry and trust. I know it is sometimes hard to do.
I am also sorry to hear you too were sick with this awful flu. I hope you are all better. I am not 100% yet, but better. xoxo

I haven't visited for a while, but I'm so glad that I did tonight. Your piece is inspiring and I love the bold colors that you used. It sounds like you are having some hard times . . . I will be putting you in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteI am having a give-away at the moment, so come on by and enter:) Remember that the hard times build character and they don't last . . . here's to better days ahead.
