"Each time these blossoms open I recall the friend who gave me the saplings, and the times we used to stop and drink beneath his trees;
But those springs of twenty years ago are like a dream,
And the wine cups of those days are tea-bowls now."
~Kisei Reigen~
If you have sound, please listen to "Dream Tree" as it plays, and then "Magnolia" if you have time to linger.

What a great homage!
ReplyDeleteLovely piece, Laurel, you depicted the quiet and wisdom of this beauty so well. [just pretending to sit under it, is calming]

ReplyDeleteBreathtaking. Rather than serene, I found myself longing for something.
ReplyDeleteThis is such remarkable work.
Most everyone has already said what I would say ... especially catnapping! Perhaps we should have a longing basket where we could each write down the word(s) of the one thing we ache for but must live without.
ReplyDeleteSome of these comments are really choking me up. Thanks everyone. I really value your words more than you know. And I feel I need them today, especially.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a lovely tree!

Gorgeous painting! I love trees, and like your poem, we have a tree that was given to us by a friend and every time I look at it, it reminds me of her :)
ReplyDeleteBBC...that was my lame attempt at humorous sarcasm( after someone "fetched me" some wine!)
ReplyDeleteThis tree is "bellissimo" a tribute to spring and its strength and beauty ... that we humans are destroying unfortunately!!!
ReplyDeletelovely. I can't wait to see such a sight. I like the blue shadows, too.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful. I want to go relax under the tree! Great work.

really pretty. makes me long for spring!
ReplyDeleteHello Laurel,
ReplyDeleteIt was so nice to hear from you! It's amazing (or is it really) how much a person can affect you, yet you've never met. I am awed by this gorgeous painting - it expresses spring so honestly and beautifully.
The cherry trees are in full bloom up here, despite the cooler temps.
I hope you are happy and healthy. Thank you for your generosity.
Peace & love ~mar
