Illustration Friday: Deja Vu

I know I've seen this tree before. I remember the same twists and turns resembling a half-eaten pretzel. Its leaves were a lace canopy letting the tiniest bits of light come through the pinhole openings.

That's it!! The light.

I've been here at twilight before but never this early in the morning while the sleepy pink sky was still hugging the horizon like a blanket.

No. This isn't deja vu.

I know this tree, and once again I'm grateful for the pleasure of her company.

  1. I like the tones of blues and greys. so close and yet the image is distinct. so hard to do, as i have tried. Pretzel tree.

  2. Ahh...I see we are on the same 'tree' page this week, Laurel. Lovely, expressive use of blue! And, gorgeous sunset...so lucky to have water so near you. Best wishes for a creative (and disciplined?) 2011! Susan

  4. I like the first tree. It reminds me very much of a birch tree we have here in the draw. It has few leaves anymore; a few branches at the top are still alive. But my eyes are still drawn to it every day...it still exudes a kind of wise energy. Lovely, lolo!!

  12. These are lovely words to go with those wonderful paintings you've done. I prefer trees to many people I know - lol! I am sitting at my kitchen table, drinking tea, and looking at snow-covered woods. Doesn't get much better than spending time like this. :) Xox

  13. Great concept for "deja vu"! It's so true how our natural surroundings can be the-same-but-different depending on lighting/time of day.
