For those of you who know my art you know that pattern is ever-present in nearly everything I draw or paint. I was going to show all of the past images that I did on patterned paper, but I chose instead to show two paintings I did with cloud patterns. One is in the west and one is here on the east coast.
I loved the rolling golden hills of California with the clouds and trees casting shadow patterns in subtle shades of blue and violet.
Now that I'm back in Rhode Island I get to see the change of seasons again. I love the marshes here, each with their own signifcant pattern. As the temperatures fall the grasses change color just as the leaves on the trees would.
The gold and amber striations make yet another pattern where there used to be lush green. Everywhere we look we see patterns in nature. To me, that's a perfect world and I try to savor every moment of it.
I love both of these, Laurel. I also rather enjoyed seeing my own "Trinity Series" reference on the Cali painting ... I need your permission to add it to my documentation files. :)
ReplyDeletelovely companion pieces. nice colors. love the hills of CA and the marsh grasses of RI
ReplyDeleteVery nice contrast of coasts. I could feel "place" with each one. I still have a hard time thinking of you on the "other side". I miss knowing you're down there in wonderful CA, sharing the West coast. But, now we get to see RI through your attentive eyes.
ReplyDeleteHappy Autumn to you my friend.
I would be happy if you had to illustrate 'pattern' every week. Are you finding further satisfying patterns in your new surroundings?
ReplyDeleteMarvelous landscapes Lolo. Love those sky patterns.
ReplyDeletebottom one looks like someone let the air outta your golden CA hills. must be the difference in the coasts like one person said, but both are wonderful. michael dailey
ReplyDeleteI agree with all the above comments. Really nice, can't wait to see the rest of RI.Thanks
ReplyDeleteclouds are the hardest things to paint, and these show your expertise. every time you mention the pleasure you are feeling at seeing changing seasons again, it is lovely and heartens my soul. you could come and live in the uk, we get 4 seasons in one day, sometimes in one hour!! happy IF pal. xx
ReplyDeleteNature's patterns are spectacular as are these two beauitiful paintings!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat comparison of both sides!!! Patterns in nature make life worth living!!!
ReplyDeletemy favorite in these is those three little trees in the first painting.

ReplyDeleteoooo!!! i love KIMONO RAVEN! that's AWESOME, lollie! i mean, the landscapes are gorgeous, but i really like that bird...in such a ornate robe with that knot in the back. :)))
ReplyDeleteBeautiful paintings! Great colors.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. The natural landscape our environment is full of pattern. You have captured it beautifully in the clouds.
ReplyDeleteWhat glorious golden glows to each of these...What a treat to be able to have experienced both! :)
ReplyDeletelove the moody clouds, they're beautiful
ReplyDeleteI thought you might be showing one of your patterned paper pieces - so this is nice to see another side of your talent! How lovely they both are Laurel.
ReplyDeleteAhh what lovely images!
ReplyDeleteSeeing them there is something to say for both of them!
And that's the way ot should be I guess.......
Once again: lovely work!
i love how your mind works almost as much as your art. gorgeous, GORGEOUS paintings!
ReplyDeleteI really love your landscape work...I always get amazed at the different styles I see out of people and their ability to be multifaceted...nice
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work!! I also love your header - the pattern is lovely, too.
ReplyDeleteYou and I are like mirror images. Well, sort of. I miss the marshes from the east coast. I do remember the greens turning a bright golden. I miss the clouds marching across the river. And now, here in CA, there are definitely different patterns. Though I can't really see the clouds over the mountains because of the smog....
ReplyDeleteBeautiful landscapes. Just beautiful!
Glorious!
