Illustration Friday: Swarm

The moment Harry takes a seat on the park bench, his favorite flock of pigeons swarm around him. They love the seed he always tucks away in his jacket pockets, but more than that they love his kindness.
Harry is very grateful for the pleasure of their company, especially since losing his wife of fifty-eight years. He's quite convinced the one that sits on his knee is his wife's way of letting him know she's nearby. Harry can often be heard cooing back to her.

I tried for a very loose and soft touch today...for Harry♥

  15. hello luscious lion :)

you and i know so much about one another so i'm wondering about harry. your illo here is so tender, it belongs in the new yorker magazine.

'swarm' for unknown reasons is one of my least favorite words in life. that said, you did it proud.

  28. A delightful line and light wash piece, Laurel. The technique sort of reminds me of R.O. Bleckman's work. I wish I were able to post Trowbridge episodes more often, but with my workload it's hard to post any at all. I can't believe I've been posting episodes since 2007.

  29. This is wonderful! When I lived in Seattle there was an old man who had all of these pigeons flock around him. It was a magical sight. Thanks for bringing back that memory to me! I love your technique. Nice!
