I've forgotten how something as simple as an old chair can remind you of a loved one from days gone by.

  2. Why must you always move me so? I got all misty on this one, between the image, the music and your words. Very, very, lovely painting, very poignant message...(sigh.)

    Have a wonderful weekend Laurel!

  4. Love the colours here and you've got another of my favourite tunes (the first one). By the way, being new to blogging, I have to sort out having two pages, a 'home' page and a dedicated 'Illustration Friday Page'. But I'm lucky enough this way to have a nice message from you on each! I shall drink a glass of French wine to your good health.

  24. gosh, there's so much sadness in this picture. maybe it's like a mirror, you see what you feel. Anyhow, it's powerful in its simplicity and really hit me when I saw it.

  28. Nice soothing use of color. "inanimate" objects can have so many stories in them.

  29. Looking at this painting is very relaxing -- it reminds me of a lazy summer afternoon of my childhood, when the summer days seemed endless. I wish my days were still like that!

  32. Beautiful painting and sentiment Laurel!!! A simple smell of a certain perfume/cologne or pipe tobacco or apple blossoms or whatever can really instantly bring back strong memories of a loved one or whatever for me. Looking at your painting, I smell (and, of course, thankfully see) sweet watermelon and lime sunshine-reminds me of some carefree peaceful day- and also of a friend I knew in college who treasured (still does) her deceased grandfather's kitchen chair - never letting anyone sit on it. It looks very similar to the one in your painting.
    Thanks for sharing

  35. I had a chair like this at my Art Club. I loved it, but someone threw it away last week. Because it was old. I hate the new ones. But I love your illustration.
