I'll admit, we purchased 2 lawn flamingos. One for Ted's mom and one for mine. the cool (funny/tacky) thing is... they came with 10 outfits so they can be dressed up according to the season and holidays. My favorite is the flamingo dressed like a turkey (for thanksgiving).Great colors, love this mixed work!
Hello there! That's from me, Bella our rescue dog and Brian who is out to buy some Nick Drake; this time the music will be the background for the soak in the tub. The illustration is very funny; I had to explain the cultural significance of the pink flamingo to my Scottish husband. Very nostalgic too, as they were definitely 'must have' for the front yard in South Chicago when I was growing up in the 50s.
haha that happens in certain parts of LA :) I do love those silly famingoes!
this makes me smile. :)xodi
Who can resist the bird theme, in just about any context?! What a fun illo.
Wow, you got that done fast. My idea for IF is still in my head. That's pretty funny. When I was a kid in the 60's I thought that people who had pink lawn flamingoes were sophisticated. I looked "sophistiated" up to check my spelling. One of the definitions was: Artifical.Vickie
Oh funny! So cute.
You are so correct. :-)
LMAO! I should also point out another culturally significant fact (thanks for opening that door, Connie). As a bored teenager is required to do, on a given Friday night, it was standard practice to gather up every pink flamingo you could find and, just as illustrated, set them up on one lawn. The police reports were always delightfully pointless: "can you describe the missing object, sir?"
Kitchy, tacky? I don't think so! This is terrific! Like the mixed media - very effective!
I took out the word "Tacky" in my tags so I don't offend my friends here. Besides, I have a pink flamingo in my yard named Millie! She's not of the original plastic kind, but still "kitschy" at best. I love her! When I do a collage from my greeting card program you can be sure I was "uninspired" by the word. I'd much rather do an original painting or drawing. Oh well, at least I'm making you smile! Thanks everyone!
lol, nothing like an excess of kitch to keep you smiling
thanks for the chuckle!
I guess I better go out and get some, so I can start my collection!LOL!
oh so true.in my case i rarely see them.so graceful and so beautiful
Great idea for the topic this week!
oh fabulouslove the way artists make everything possible...without them there was no hope...
Very pink. Nice. Great submission.
wowwwwwwwww, and i'll be brave enough to say it OH YES YOU CAN!!!! (have too many lawn flamingos!) wonderful illio, lolo! hee hee !!!
what a really fun(ny) post...never seen these before in my life....but i have seen real pink flamingoes, lucky ole me! hugs and wfs. what about choosing a 'giggle' for me to send you?
Adorable illustration, but I can't help wondering how does one mow that lawn
what about shiny orbs on pedestals? You are so funny!
Well, it's probably a bit more sanitary than real flamingos all over your lawn. Just a guess. You have such a whimsically, crazy sense of humor. You never know what to expect here at the studio LL. Some days I cry, some days I guffaw or maybe a chortle or two. Good stuff Laurel!
I love it!
Well, yes, I'd have to agree with that! LOL So clever.
pink flamingos are the best! my sil had them outside her pod in iraq, just a little bit of home away from home.
Very funny and imaginative.
