IF : Routine Ravens

Most of you know I love ravens and I end up using them in so much of my art. I don't know how to make a photo montage so I had to crop and scan each one, and then scan the printed one which is why the quality of this is quite poor. This is a scan of a scan...sheesh.
All of these ravens have appeared here with their stories. To see what they had to say, find them in my archives!

I hope to have time to paint something else for this week, but for now here you go! Ravens galore!

  1. I think this apply fits the collective noun for ravens, "a storytelling of ravens" very nice.

  2. oops, "aptly" not "apply" typos are very routine for me.

  3. Laurel, these birds seem to want to tell something. They are wise, they are spiritual, they are magical. Have you ever thought of writing and illustrating a children's book with these creatures ? I think the 3rd one in the first row is up to know no good or does he seem to be a little frazzled? [my favorite with the beautiful sketchy tree lines..] Love love your birds and what you do with them!!
    [thanks for awarding me, sorry didn't get around to reply yet..}

  5. Oh, lovely! I didn't realize this was yet something else we had in common. I dream of taming that Rook out my window! We will celebrate Brian's birthday yet again; last restaurant: great Spanish food, but tiled everything which made for noise. Will go for the 'quiet and intimate' next! The older you get, the longer you get to celebrate your birthday (my rule).

  6. What a great idea for routine, hee hee... and yet another chance to see your ravens.

I've always been fascinated by those dark beauties. We have quite a few lurking about our neighborhood, making their clickity clackity noises. But ever since I've been visiting here, I've become an even bigger fan of the raven. You do them great justice!

Oh, and what a fun collagey thing. Very cool!

your rendition of your routine theme is so original and unique in each work...
the mythical character of ravens is always beautifully illustrated in your works...

enjoy watching them again and again...
    namaste!

  11. Your Raven's also top my list as my favorite of your work! Did I tell you we saw a Raven Chick at the creek that runs by our house? We weren't sure until we saw the Momma/Dad feeding it.

Also, thanks for your comments on my "routine" this week. It was one of those rare moments when I totally cracked myself up, I am glad to share the laugh. In fact my brother-in-law IS a proctologist and has his own practice in town- Rita (Ted's sister) decorated his office with photography of old outhouses. I guess if your going to be a proctologist, its good to have a sense of humor! PS. I hope things are going your way and you are feeling peaceful. hugs

  12. Incredibly beautiful collection! Different styles, different angles, but I love each one. You should see the ravens (crows?) they have in Tokyo. They're much bigger than anything I saw in NY, and they have a deep, gutteral sound. You'd love them!

  13. Beautifully done, Laurel. We need to get caught up ... okay, okay! I need to get caught up! :)

  14. Beautiful work! I have a thing for ravens too... not sure why. I particularly like the one on the bottom right, the color contrasts are great! Just wandering if you have ever read a book called "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrel". There's a rather mysterious character named The Raven King. :)

  20. i had a dream of flocks of birds the other night. It seems the dream image is that of "messenger"
i think there is a software out there that allows a creation of a montage without doing a shot of a shot; but i have no idea what the name of it is

  22. I'm throwing messages around everywhere saying we want the music back again! For those of the sensitive persuasion, turn down the volume control on your computer. 'Blackbird singing in the dead of night.....'

  23. I almost did this too but I don't know how? Since I always do houses I thought that is my routine :) But your Ravens are perfect and wonderful and good on you that you could make a collage! Awesome!!!
I didn't know you are moving? Rhode Island is so beautiful, it is my first time there and I love it, Mystic is very much like Martha's Vineyard. When are you moving?

  32. Your ravens are great. They look very nice together. Even with the goofy scan method.
I think there is a way to do a montage on flickr. Some people were doing it on some blogs I visited a month or two ago. I was curious but didn't have time to give it a go. I spend way too much time on the computer as it is because I have to figure so much out.
