IF : Detach

As a way to temporarily detach himself from the rest of the flock, The Elder will often choose the high branches of the bare oak so he can keep the others in his sights, even though they are a mere reflection in his eye. He's the wise one, all knowing, all seeing.
Click to see the reflection in his eye.
36"x 36" acrylic on canvas, finally finished today for Illustration Friday's word: detach. I've been so detached from my life lately, I haven't been to the studio!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

  2. This painting is amazing, so much personality and depth to the raven. The perspective is perfect and the colors are moody yet open. This tops the list for my favorite paintings of yours.. this one and the moon one from last year.

  6. Lolo, my dear artist friend...

    i'm speechless...
this painting is so majestic... so unworldly...
the posture of the crow... the tree and its bare branches rooting as if from his mind... the reflection -- a window to the inner world.... the colors...

wow wow wow .... this paiting is a masterpiece... love it so much... it talks to me so deep... and it is so mesmerising ... cannot keep my eyes away from it...

and illustrating 'detach' so profoundly... so beautifully...

    namaste!

  10. One of your best ever; beautiful image! We live in great crow country here; come and visit. We're off into Edinburgh to re-celebrate Brian's birthday, the original being given over to 12 year olds and dogs.

  14. Hope all is going well. And that you get into the studio sooner. This is one of my favorites. The composition and colors are so subdued and cold. Gives me the shivers! PS. Run on over... I'll put you to work with the drill as soon as you get here. I need a helper :)

  18. This is phenomenal. The reflections in the bird's eye and feathers are amazing and so is the texture of the trees. (Also thank you for putting the "off" button for the music at the top--music on blogs makes me crazy! Not very open-minded of me I know--but it throws me off when music suddenly starts playing.)

  20. Wow! This is so commanding! I adore crow imagery - it's so symbolic in so many ways - and your crow has tremendous power. The fact that it's so big truly impresses me! It must be quite something to see in person!

I do see some other story in his[her] eyes, a prophetic vision or a mere reflection ..
I hope you're doing well, dear Laurel

  37. The raven must be your totem. They seem to resonate with you. You certainly know what you're doing when it comes to drawing or painting them, that's for sure. This is gorgeous! I love his majestic face, the colors reflecting in his black feathers and the beautifully complimentary branches in the background. Just lovely!
