The word this week for Illustration Friday is seed. This is one of three 4' x 4' mural panels I did for an agricultural company in Salinas, CA., depicting their melon fields. Most people don't have this scene in mind when picking out produce from the supermarkets. Sometimes we forget the migrant workers and locals who work so hard planting the seeds so that we may enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Great work (quite large!!) love the sky colors!
ReplyDeleteAgreed...really like the handling of the sky...as well as the field...
ReplyDeleteI agree. Growing things is definitely hard work. Very nice feeling in your piece.
ReplyDeleteI love this depiction of the melon fields...wonderful work and the detail and colours are perfect!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteHaving lived in the Ventura/Oxnard area, (a wonderfully fertile ag land,) this is a familiar scene for me. Living there, smelling the good and awful ag smells, driving past fields and buying produce from roadside stands, you get more of a connected feeling to the whole process. This includes becoming aware of the the worker's sweat and toil. I miss that connectedness now, living in a much less ag-related community. Thanks for reminding me with your gorgeous, Maxfield Parrish sky.
It is a beautiful soft and hopeful image.
ReplyDeleteSeeds of wisdom!

ReplyDeletegorgeous, lolo! something about you and larger pieces, murals makes a heck of a lot of sense to me...like, your brushes would just take over such space. the colors are just perfect. :)))
ReplyDeleteHaven't commented in a while because, well, everyone says it all in the end. And, as you know dear sister, I have always loved your skies.

Beautiful!!! I love farmland and often have an urge to farm the land- maybe it's that past life or genetic memory stuff. Maybe I just love the view; your painting captures so well what's to love.
ReplyDeleteOh, this makes me a little homesick... I can smell the faint scent of the salty air. I like your comment about the workers, people don't realize how hard field work is, those are the people that have to work long hours with little breaks, and often around dangerous chemicals and pesticides just to scrape by.
ReplyDeletelovely luminous colour
ReplyDeletethis is very nice. i like the use of white (green) space and how it works within the piece. looking forward to seeing it in person
