Suki's Emily

Okay, I have been absent long enough.
I really miss posting and visiting, so I'm going to start with the very last painting I did and then hopefully have more to post very soon.

This is a portrait of our friend Suki's beloved and sorely missed cat, Miss Emily Dickinson.
I went to Suki's blog and borrowed a photo to paint from. The photo wasn't very clear but I did my best to capture her spirit. Suki approved and was quite touched and grateful.
It's a simple portrait trying to capture an enormous little spirit.
We are never, ever ready to let them go, but we must in order for them to move on.

I hope to be back soon with something new from my easel. I miss you all!

What better way to say Happy Caw-lidays!!

OH, but today is Animal Wednesday so I guess I should say,

Blooming Tuesday : Mini Tulip

I've been busy painting these little miniatures and listing them in my Etsy shop.
I think spring in New England has hit me!
And you can see I'm making use of many stamps that have come on my mail this past year. Fun!

Anyway, first time doing Blooming Tuesday!

Animal Wednesday : Here chick chick!

There's something about chickens that I really like. Their eyes fascinate me for some reason, and I love the different patterns of the many varieties. They make wonderful painting subjects, especially if they sit perfectly still in the studio and don't poop on the floor. Ha ha ha!!

Happy Animal Wednesday, or HAW to all you regulars!

Cactus Monday #2

Here's a little 6 x 6 inch canvas I painted this weekend at the studio especially for Cactus Monday. I used a photo I took a few years ago as a reference. I've listed it in my Etsy shop to keep the other paintings company! I call it "Cactus Meditation."
Update...it sold as soon as I listed it. A client of mine saw it and wanted it for her daughter, so I took it off Etsy.

IF : Visitors

How appropriate the word is for me this week. My eighteen year old niece from New Hampshire came to visit us. It was her first time flying and being so far away from home. My husband and I took her to all the beautiful places in our area making sure she had the full 'peninsula experience.' It turns out her favorite place is also my favorite; Point Lobos State Reserve. There are walking trails along sheer cliffs surrounded by the restless sea. You can't help clicking shot after shot so you can take it all home with you to savor the experience again.

I did this little painting today of China Cove, one of the prettiest spots in Point Lobos that brings many visitors each year. It's truly a magical place.

If you ever come to the Monterey Peninsula, be sure to go there. And hey, look me up...I'll come with you!!
P.S. After having missed last week, I'm glad to be back!
