It turns out the secret ingredient in the winning cioppino recipe was a flawed cod. (I personally love them beer-battered and fried with lots of tartar sauce!)
I hope to be back later with a BETTER entry!! Oy, what a reach.
acrylic, marker and colored pencil on yesterday's news
Beer battered ?
ReplyDeleteFried?
Tartar sauce ?
[don't forget the capers...]
Boy, I am hungry!!
BTW
ReplyDeleteI like the concept of the fish on the newspaper, sorta reminds me of the Scilly Islands..
What do you mean better? This is a delight- the colors and the juxtaposition of the fish on the newspaper! Love your new banner also! You keep on dazzling!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is really awesome! I thoroughly enjoyed your illustration a ton!
ReplyDeleteit's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWell, this is a way to get something good out of the news. You are making me hungry.
ReplyDeleteI love this on top of the news paper.
ReplyDeleteFun post :) Not to mention colorful! I always like what you have to share. Like the newspaper. We always spread newspaper on the table when we ate the blue crabs from the Chesapeake because they were so messy. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteIndeed a good colourful piece.
ReplyDeleteI love the fish greet us with a friendly smile:)
Beer-battered? You MUST be from Wisconsin lol. This is so fun on a newspaper.
ReplyDeleteI love the fish on the newspaper, as they wrapped in many fish markets or were in my younger years.
ReplyDeleteNo flaws seen here! Great fish!
Thanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteI really did paint this on an article about a winning cioppino recipe (which is a seafood stew!)
I had such high hopes for an illustration today and this is all I could muster. I'm glad the response is good!
Click to enlarge the article :)

LOL the stretchiest ones are usually my favorite...and this one is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteMmmmmmm, there's no better way to have fish, in my opinion. Fabulous fishie Friday!!!
ReplyDeletewhat a good way to show a piece of fish, in newspaper...tee hee, unflawed i'd say.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was a great idea to show the fish in newspaper. Its so effective - the colourful fish against the starkness of the black & white paper.
ReplyDeleteLol! It works for me...lol! Love it!
ReplyDeleteNo, I don't know who the artist is. I am going to have to do a post on my blog though about my stolen art and make sure everyone knows it isn't mine.

ReplyDeletePerfect and super clever...Love the way you see life! :)
ReplyDeleteHello Darling:
ReplyDeleteThank you. But I keep thinking I better do a post soon about the art, because I really do wish I could credit it to the artist now.
At the time, to be honest. I didn't give a shit really. I just wanted to look at something that made me feel better.
xoxo
Thank you though, because I do love all the pictures or if I don't love them they hit something in me.
Love Renee
Do you want to take one guess at who already has some of your paper bag ladies and also a certain banner with a paper bag lady.

OOH this looks so delicious and colorful and tasty too! he he he! I really like this. It brings back a lot of wonderful memories for me of going to the fish monger with my mom! This is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteHey lady,
ReplyDeleteThere are awards for you at my blog: http://indigeneart.com!
So who won the contest.......lol!
ReplyDeleteThis is great Laurel...
The spontaneity of it really works!
That fish has too much personality to eat, I would love to have that flawed fish in a tank with other beautifuly colored flawed fish. Then maybe I could start a flawed fish farm.
ReplyDeleteI like reading newspapers, I enjoy cod, especially the way you described it, and throw in some steak fries and a few hush puppies, hmmm, I forgot myself for a second, see what your illustrations do to me.
ReplyDeleteNothing flawed here, all good.
I love how you dare to make art on all kinds of backgrounds and they all turn out so nice!
ReplyDeletehaha that fish is to pretty to eat :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty, flawed fish!
ReplyDeleteyeah thats a big reach alright! lucky you have done that, now you have inspired me to do the same. Love the paper!
ReplyDeleteyum! i love cod. i love 'em fried in batter, and i love 'em with rice and spinach, with a light, sherry-based sauce drizzled over.
ReplyDeletenothing flawed about cod. cods are from god!
♥
Funny idea:)
ReplyDeleteawesome, awesome! "flawed cod" would be a good name for a band, "yesterday's news" could be the name of their first album. I don't see how "flawed-2" could ever out do "flawed-1" it's marvelous!
ReplyDeleteoh so fun, I love that you painted it on newspaper.
ReplyDeletegreat work consistently imaginative and original. brill.
ReplyDeleteLovvve the way he pop off the newsprint! So much fun. Gorgeous fishy! Hey, don't worry about the reach. I personally feel some of my favorite IF entries have been far reaches. The weekly word is meant to be inspirations, right!!? If it inspired this awesome piece, then hooray!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! It really would be a perfect illustration and layout for an article on Flawed Cod-- grreat idea!- and mmmmm- fried-beer-batter (though w/o the fish for me ;)
