Animal Wednesday : She's not fat, she's FLUFFY!

This is my cat Bliss. All 20 pounds of her. Now let me explain why she's carrying so much weight before you comment! She's allergic to most cat foods on the planet. If there's a bit of grain in it she itches until she's bloody. It's a sad way to live. Foods without grains give her bloody diarrhea because she has colitis. Cleaning a fluffy butt a few times a day is an awful chore, and worse if I'm not here to do it and she goes on the bed. You get my drift.

If she eats the diet food that makes her itchy, she has to get depo medrol shots which is a long-acting cortisone with many bad side effects ( ravenous appetite, excessive thirst and worse, diabetes.)

I recently read this wonderful article on feeding cats written by a veterinarian. So now I'm slowly trying the changes she recommends which has shot Bliss's weight up to 20 pounds even though I measure her food! So, what I've chosen to do is pick my battles. The bottom line is I want the most comfort for my cat with the least harmful side-effects. Even though it now takes a crane to lift her, we never make her feel bad about her weight :) HAW!!!!

  3. She is quite beautiful with all that fluff. As long as she and her Momma is happy to heck with the rest of em. Cause you know when Momma ain't happy nobuddys happy.

  4. HAW-My Cody is a bit fluffy too. If I cut back his food, he'll eat poop and the only way to stop that is keep him segregated from the other dogs-and that's no fun for him or them (they adore him. So, like you, I pick my battles.

(And I just found out I got the puppy-she'll be coming here on Valentine's day.)

  5. she does look lovable and cuddly (as well as looking like a walking allergy for my HD.) but she looks happy and healthy and it's a good thing that kitties don't need their waistlines

  8. hee-heee!! Bliss was "taking a bath" when I called her name so she'd look at me! She does look a bit miffed at the interuption!
She has to lift her belly up with her paws so she gets "all the places" clean. I do feel bad about her weight. Oh well, she is very loved.

  10. She looks like she means business!

The way I see it, if she's happy and loved, that's all that matters.

  14. Poor bliss. It has to be hard to find food for her to eat. My cat Spike is 18 pounds, but thankfully he can eat diet food with no side effects.

  15. Apparently BBC has nothing to do with the British TV service. Rather, it must surely stand for Big Beautiful Cat! :)

  16. She's a BBK, Big Beautiful Kittums! She's so adorable, I want to just bury my face in her fur... sneeeeeeeze!!!

You really do have to choose your battles, in every part of life, eh? Well, I agree with the others, Bliss looks very content to me and she is lucky to have such a thoughtful mom, who actually tries to weigh (pardon the expression) all the issues.
