This is a little old drawing I did a few years back when I was on a kick of sending out images for potential greeting cards. I used to get a lot of "positive rejections" telling me my art was refreshing, but nothing I sent fit anyone's needs at the time. One company (Design-Design) even said he wanted 6 of my images and then changed his mind. That killed me! So, there you go. The life and times of a freelancer. And so it still goes! HAW to all of my animal pals out there! (That's Happy Animal Wednesday to you newbies.)
I love this illustration and how you positioned the cats opposite each other. Interesting about your delve into the greeting card field, which is where I am directing my efforts presently... sucks that art is so subjective and fickle! =)
ReplyDeleteeven though i don't like kitties, these are cute. haw to you.
ReplyDeletecute, relaxing looking kitties! HAW to you friend,
ReplyDeleteI thought of Princess PC when I did the "Ant Tragedy" - but hadn't sent the link.
Great image! I can't imagine anyone rejecting that!
ReplyDeleteHAW
by the way, I love that Lemon tree song.
ReplyDeleteThe world of art sales is decidedly subjective and fickle and will always be I'm afraid. I suspect that the trouble may have arisen with process, where a pressman quite likely espoused the improbability of reproduction ... hence the last minute change of mind. I also suspect that you received no design fee or, at the very least, no kill fee once the final decision was made?
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone :)
ReplyDeleteMick: I didn't get anything except a big fat disappointment! C'est le vie!
How cute is this!!! Love kitties! Wonderfully drawn!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful-- love your color choices.
ReplyDeletei have just nominated you for a new award, go take a peek. hugs and wfs.
ReplyDeleteVery inspired illustration!
ReplyDeleteI think the kitties (and the concept) would make a great card!
ReplyDeleteUgh...the dreaded "positive rejection" and fickle (or just flaky) art-directors...we need to grow rhino-skin to do art for a living don't we?!
Love the title, illo, and story of course ;) They are so darling and make my heart go purrrr!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by - miss you, too.
Wonderful work laurel. I've got no idea how this could be rejected, considering some og what I've seen on some cards lately.
ReplyDeleteLovely kitties... sad tale of the tantalizing greeting card buy. The freelance world can be so maddening sometimes.
ReplyDeleteA belated HAW!
ReplyDeleteaww how did i miss this one earlier? what a clever observation; wonderful that you captured it on canvas
ReplyDeleteI love this one! You must have been out of their minds to reject this.
ReplyDeleteI would certainly buy this when I would find it in a store.
Thanks for stopping by at my blog!
Yesterday I saw at animal planet exactly the same water tank as you used for the pekingnese . They used it for a teckel (dakshund) to practise after a spinal operation.
I had to think of you and the lovely Pekingnese then.........
Take care!
Marianne
