IF : The Legend Continues...

As we go back to my dream of Raven and the giant pears, we see Raven fly from one pear to another, checking on them as if he has a kinship with them. From the time the moon falls from the evening sky until the first light of dawn, he stays watchful and protective. He has surely and rightfully earned his title, "Keeper of the Orchard."

For Illustration Friday prompt, "Tales and Legends." Acrylic and Prismacolor pencils on bristol paper. ( from my archives)

  3. I'm glad the legend is continuing, I love your raven. Hmmm, and now I'm craving pears. Better slog through the rain and head to Whole Foods.

Is it raining hard in your neck of the woods?

  5. This series is fascinating, Laurel!
They remind me a bit of Tarot with numerological and magical connotations.
You should check out this book for older children, where a 14 year old boy changes into a raven each full moon:[the title might sound ominous, but this is truly a wonderful and powerful book about friendship and trust]

  18. For all of you who have noticed the "bottoms" of my pears...I did them that way on purpose :) I think I started to have a pear fetish when I was trying to accept my older, fuller figure. It was all a process...still is! These last 2 posts were painted about 10 years ago and seemed fitting for the past 2 weeks. I have more raven/pear series to add if the word of the week is appropriate, so stay tuned!

  20. I have loads of photos I took of individual pears from my tree last summer..gorgeous lush things. None this coming summer-the tree is gone. The pears were so prolific I couldn't keep them picked and the flies were horrid.

This year I am planting a garden and will have lush squash!!!

  27. This series is so interesting! Very nice work.

  28. The pear seems to lend itself to anthropomorphic interpretation. Honore Daumier, the great 19th century draftsman and caricaturist did an ongoing series of King Louis-Phillip as a pear.
Google Daumier + pear and you will see what I mean.

I live in Stow, Ma which is about 25 miles west of Boston. Rural community, lots of Apple Orchards. My nephews ( and their family) live in Rindge NH so I am up there alot! I am also in CA alot, my brother lives in San Luis Obispo - one of the prettiest places on the Central Coast!

Thanks - looking forward to seeing more of your work!
