A Sketchy Past

I don't remember what pile of stuff I was going through, but I found this drawing I did 35 years ago when I was 19. I remember copying it from a photograph in some fashion magazine, probably Cosmo or Vogue because I was into that stuff back then. It's supposed to be Nastasia Kinski. My boyfriend (back then) thought she was incredibly beautiful, and she was. I'd often take out my number 2 pencil and draw on manila paper. Simple tools back then for me. If I find the one of Picasso I'll share that one too. It's one of my favorites.

I like the way the paper has yellowed around the mat. That's how I feel sometimes. I little worn and older around the edges.

  2. Wasn't she the one who got a perfect 10 in gymnastics? No wait, that was Nadia Comaneci... Cool pic, anyway!

  3. This is beautiful. I love how the left side of her faces recedes into the shadows.

  5. Well, well, look who has "another side". Seems like we both decided to pull some old stuff out of the dusty reaches of our old portfolios this week. What a beauty... the sketch, I mean.

  6. Beeeyootiful sketch! Sometimes that simple #2 can really sing. You really did Nastasia great justice.

I know what you mean about feeling a "little worn and older around the edges." I'm there with you sister. But judging by the vitality of your art, I suspect you are anything but.

    Rock on girl!

  9. You certainly captured her youthful sensuality. How fun to stumble across our past like this. I know what you mean about turning yellow at the edges ;)

  11. yes; lovely. we have no choice but to embrace the yellowness of our past art endeavors. its always sad when I look at the girls childhood art and they are yellowed; easier to embrace my aging then theirs.

  14. My old drawings don't look as good as this beautiful piece. Nice work. Bravo! What other treasures are in your archives?

  15. The drawing is wonderful, but about your comments...I think that paper that's aged a bit, yellowed, frayed around the edges is the most beautiful of all. How boring new white paper, with no story yet to tell, no soul to see. Give me the patina of living anyday, there lies beauty, be it in the faces of we humans or yes, on a sheet of paper.
