IF : Superstition

" Carrying an acorn will bring luck and ensure a long life."

I love it when a painting I just finished happens to fit the "IF" theme! I painted this Thursday for my friend's birthday. She loves acorns, oak leaves and Ravens. Yesterday I had no computer access due to some glitch at the towers, or whatever. It was hell for me because I wait all week for Illustration Friday! I still could have gone to the studio to draw or paint something, but no, I frittered away the day in withdrawal. Today though, I hope to do something superstitious in my Moleskine! So check back on my moleskine site if you'd like.

Have a super weekend!

  3. I think ravens/crows get bad press as they always appear to be associated with the occult etc...but that's an aside. You've depicted Mr Bird and acorn really well.

  8. I love crows and ravens and this, Laurel, is perfect. I know what you mean--I remember when I had problems trying to upload to IF one day, and i was so limited on time--I was so furious. Seriously, withdrawal sums it up, ha ha. Anyhow, I will indeed check the 'skine page now!

  9. Everyone has already said it so well. I was looking at the large version, studying that acorn, it looks like I could pick it right off the page.

  10. Wow this is really a beautiful image. I love crows and ravens (well all birds actually). Crows and ravens are so much smarter that most of their other feathered friends (except my pet parrot). Beautiful colors, love the work...as usual.

  22. Gorgeous painting of an intriguing subject, as much for the lore as the interesting creatures they are. You really captured something there.

Two crows sat outside my bedroom window Saturday morning, squawking in, waking me up. Hmmm, wonder if that was an omen of any kind.

  23. Great bird! Must be 'cause of old E.A.Poe, but ravens and their smaller cousins the crows always seem to know more than they let on. Smart fellows, these guys.
