IF : Missing you so much...

I worked all day on a painting for this topic today and ended up not using it. It just wasn't the right fit. I kept going back to one of my favorite illustrations I used for a promo mailer a couple of years back. This guy is really a heartbreaker, isn't he? Dogs miss us whether we're gone at work all day or just going to the bathroom with the door closed. They're missing us whether it's five minutes or five days, doesn't matter to them just as long as we come back. I feel sad for the ones who are waiting for someone who isn't going to return, ever. Thankfully a lot of those guys end up in new homes with someone new to miss! I have one of those rescues. Trust me, she never looked back! Now she's missing ME when I'm at work, or checking for mail, or out for dinner ...but at least I leave the bathroom door open. I know...too much information!

Fine point Sharpie, watercolor, and Prismacolor pencils.

Oh yeah, I hate when I'm visiting my folks and their dog, who loves when I visit, follows me to the door everytime I have to go somewhere, only to watch me with her big, sad eyes. Wish i could take her with me. It's good you went with your intuition and posted an image you felt right about--it's so sweet!

This is so sweet! My dog loves me like this...even when no one else loves me, she wags her tail for me and takes a seat next to me. She is also a rescue dog, and I am her world.

How very true. I love this illo, it is so sweet. It made me smile and look over to my cat, who misses me in the same way :) To be loved by an animal is a true treasure.

Every day my husband and I meet at home for lunch, the kids (cats) are so excited to see us. They all run to the door with tails high up in the air!

Your drawing is so sweet!

I can imagine Emma waiting at the door wondering when you will be back from the mailbox. :) You know Sully does the same thing. I even feel bad taking him to the groomer. I always wonder if he thinks I am leaving him with all those cats. When I work at home, Sully sits behind me on the same chair all day. I love this illustration. It's much sweeter than mine where I imagined Sully being lost.

Yours is one of the IF entries I always look for. I enjoy both seeing what you've created visually and what you've written about it as well.

And thank you for leaving the comment on my Moon illustration.

What a sweetheart he is. Mine is gearing up for his 17th birthday - no doubt his last. It will be a hard day for me.

Hahahaha very funny, Laurel... I agree with you, dogs (and cats in my case) are awesome. I miss my cat, and I think that, maybe, he is missing me too :')

I really like the angle that you drew that super-cute dog, i find it very hard to draw anything with its head up like that, you must have alot of skill :)

I love this illo Poor animals that are discarded so easily...I never understand people who ruthlessly give their pets away....to me, they're family. From birth to death! So precious this piece, makes me want another one sooner than later!!! ! You are such a good dog mama!!! So glad there are people like you!

At the risk of sounding sacharrin, this is the sweetest thing. You know animals so well, and dogs take each breath as their human friend takes hers.

Oh! What a dog! LOVE IT!

yep unlike cats lol dogs sure know how to show affection. not saying cats can't but it seems only if they want to when they want to
