Many of you may be familiar with the Soul Collage process. You make your own deck of cards to use in your personal readings. It's an amazing intuitive process used by therapists and regular, run of the mill people like myself. To learn more about it, go to http://www.soulcollage.com/
This is one of my animal companion cards that represents the first chakra, the root chakra located at the base of the spinal column. It is associated with the material things of life, with shelter and food and with making money. It has to do with our sense of security in the world and is connected with survival and self-esteem. This chakra holds grounding energy. It stabilizes us and helps us keep our balance, physically and emotionally.
When I look at this card I see this magnificent bear making sure I'll be taken care of. He'll help me keep my balance and keep me grounded. I feel that I could call out to him in an emergency and he'd be right there.
(Note: when my family sees this post, they'll swear I've been in California too long!)
Ha ha--sorry, but the last sentence cracked me up. Trust me, the world is teeming with of a myriad of belief systems, both popular and unpopular that should be well examined. In the meantime, this is a beautiful collage and I love the symbolism found within. I think we all need to get in touch with our inner-bear from time to time (although mine will, unfortunately, most likely be when I've got to get up at six AM again every day, starting next week :P). Enjoy the rest of your week in the meantime!!
ReplyDeleteHey...you don't have to be from California to know there's a lot more to life than meets the eye. And you've demonstrated that here. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteLaurel, this is a beautiful collage. I've never seen that site before.
ReplyDeleteHey, I nominated you for the Rockin' Girl Blogger award. I love how you put your heart and soul into all your works! And this post is no exception. Details are at my site in the latest post.
I always learn something when I visit your blog Laurel! Beautiful collage - I like the fossils in the rock. I used to live on the West Coast and I think it changed me a little too... :)
ReplyDeleteDo baby bears count? This is a really interesting piece, It looks like everything is in perfect balance.
ReplyDeleteDa Bears? They will WIN the Super Bowl! :D
ReplyDeleteBeautifully crafted montage. Laurel. I did a caricature gig at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle this past weekend. After my gig was over I spend some time looking at the bears, endangered sloth bears. The snow leopards were beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, interesting. informative! and yeah that last sentence- funny!
ReplyDeleteCalifornia is a great place! The rest of the country seems to be catching on- hope so anyway.
Ummmmm, perhaps a bit of California has worn off on you. I won't tell your family though. This is a nice funky kind of photo collage. A little different than what I would have expected.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone...my first idea for emergency was to paint a sweet, slobbery St. Bernard with a brandy keg and a red cross, but I thought....nah, too predictable for studio lolo! I guess I should have done that because it seems this post is out of the "norm" for what people expect from me.
ReplyDeleteSoul Collage is new to me too, but meditation and animal communication has been around for thousands of years. I just thought I'd try something a little "deeper" than my usual posts, but next week I'll go back to the style most of you like. I promise!
wonderfully solid bear!!
ReplyDeleteand thanx for the info on the chakras... made me want to know more... so looked them up... and the heart is full of wonder and peace... :o)
This is great, Laurel! I didn't know about soul collages. I will indeed investigate this form. This card does resonate support and safety. I lol about your family ;) I hope you're having a grand summer!
ReplyDeletePeace.
Wow! This is wonderful and amazing collage!
ReplyDeleteI love this college and the story behind it! You are a wonderful person :-)
ReplyDeleteA very interesting piece Laurel. I can feel the balance and safety in the space with the great bear and the hands touching his face. Interesting story behind this idea as well, and the line about your family thinking you have been in California too long, just so funny. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLove this collage piece!!
ReplyDeletenice piece, Beautiful collage + interesting info...
ReplyDeleteHi Laurel,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your nice comment on the "Good Cat." I've another couple up also, "Nice Cat" and "Bad Cat". I'm thinking of doing a series of anthropomorphic Cats.
Bye,
Robert
It seems quite right, very strong symbolism. Beautiful work. :)
ReplyDeleteI think that making the cards is a really good idea.
ReplyDeleteIt would be a reminder not only to stay grounded, but also to keep up the good work with your art!
Great job once again :)
Nice composition. I like how the bear seems as stable as the rocks. Great explanation too. My younger brother moved to LA, but I haven't heard any talk of chakras yet. Then again, all he does talk about now is surfing, so...
ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore this! And my family just think, I'm "Woo-Woo!" Lol! I'm guess I'm not an East Coast girl, after all! :)
