Slowly but surely getting back to art

I've been lucky to be getting pet portrait commissions once again.
This one was a request by the owner of Grasmere. This is Sadie, her friend's dog who recently passed away. She sent me 3 photos to work from and this is how I chose to capture the essence and spirit of her. I like to do partial faces, focusing on the eyes. Sometimes the pet( asks) to be painted completely. I sit with the photos for a while and then decide. It usually all comes together.
Here's the photo I chose to work from.

What a face! I hope the recipient is moved by the painting.

Mim, guess who's on the easel now? :)

If you think I've been quiet these days it's because my wireless was down for a week. I'm back now. Stay tuned!

  2. Dear *BS*....the first thing I ever noticed on your blog was the outstanding art....particularly with animals! Well, my opinion has not changed...it has only grown stronger. Sadie's Mum will be so happy when she sees this...(after bursting into tears of happiness because you have captured *Sadie* beautifully)...you have given her a great gift!

Mim.... will be thrilled when her *Baby* is completed too....he was such a handsome Lab!

Brava to you, Lo! You have had a very rough Winter/Spring...but Art is your salvation and the gateway to a brighter Summer - and future!!!!

    Love, always,

  9. Beautiful. It must be awfully hard to capture what the owner remembers about a late beloved pet (I can't imagine competing with a memory), but I think this portrait will be sure to please.

  19. I love this! They say "The eyes are the window to the soul" and it's so true here. I'm going to the cabin this weekend - hopefully my muse will be waiting for me! I've been in such a funk lately and not doing anything artistic at all!
