Wallflower 4

What a slow day at the gallery today! It's Mother's day, for one. People just aren't out browsing open art studios. So I took advantage of the time and painted another Wallflower for my series. My goal is to have eight, so I'm halfway there! Obviously I didn't make the May deadline I imposed on myself, so now I'm shooting for June sometime. I was browsing in my latest issue of Somerset Studios Magazine and was inspired by one of the illos in it. It was done by using gel medium and doing transfers, etc. I don't know how to do any of that, soI just painted mine and hoped for the best. No gel medium or anything else except for this awesome piece of paper that came in the magazine and had the word "Flower" all over it. What a sign! I stamped over some of the letters in paint and incorporated them into the design.

So, here she is. Again, I'd like to know from you what you think her story is! This one was a lot of fun to do, keeping it all in blues and greens with just her lips and bracelet in persimmon. The flowers on the edges are shapes cut from magazines, just the colors I needed. Thanks for your feedback. You're all the best!! And Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there :)

  2. Another beautiful wallflower. She actually looks like she is on her way to her garden, where I think she seeks inner peace, and replenishes her well. I believe we all have a place we go to when we are either too full, or almost empty. Thank you for sharing.

  4. A lovely lady. I like the muted colors and the persimmon accent. I wondered if you had family with you on Mothers Day or just painted alone all day. I hope you could be with family.

  6. Wow, I'm always amazed when I get comments on my non-IF posts! Thanks everyone! Steve, I just changed the look of my blog yesterday:) and Bron, yes I was alone on Mother's Day. I have no children, but husband and pets were waiting for me when I got home. Mother's Day is bittersweet for me. Thanks you for your nice comment and thoughtfulness.

  7. Oh, Laurel, she's beautiful! I adore the use of persimmon and the composition is so balanced. I can't say what it is she's thinking or feeling. She appears to remembering a time, that was precious, but tainted in some way. In fact, the first thing that came to mind was the character, Joanna in May Sarton's book, "
Joanna and Ulysses. It's a short tale about a woman painter and a donkey she befriends while on holiday on island of Santorini. I didn't finish it, as I wanted to cherish this little story a while longer. I think you'd like it...

I can't wait to see the other wallflowers :)

  9. She's beautiful, and full of character. I think she's quite shy with people in general, but has a strong quiet gentle personality, with lovely little quirks here and there, ie the lipstick and bracelet. She blossoms as you get to know her.

  10. I think she was waiting for someone at the park, and he kept her waiting so long, she was really not sure she was happy to see him when he finally showed. Great moody colors.

Oh, and yeah, Louie and Charlie were great friends. Louie fought a valient battle against cancer and lost several years ago, but he continues to visit Charlie in dreams. These two will appear in exploits I'll write about; both true and fictitious, before and after Louie's death.

  13. She's waiting for someone, someone she has no right to be waiting for. She believes her beautiful spring day hat is a good hiding place, and that only her beloved will recognize her, she's wrong.

What beautiful work you do Laurel, I love your "Wallflower" series!

Wow! Her story? She's window shopping
inside a flower mart, and looks up,
just in time, to see someone outside
    taking her picture.

P.S. Nice to meet you! :D
