IF : Garden Patterns

One of my addictions is patterns. I love painting them, buying them on linens and paper supplies and decorating with them. I mix and match the most unlikely ones together. As long as there's some color harmony going on, it works for me. I find patterns to be cheery. I've recovered my dining room chairs in vibrant garden motifs with linen napkins from import stores. This is a painting I did of one of my favorite tablecloths that I bought at a flea market, only in real life it's in reds and oranges. I wanted the contrast of the blues with these vibrant nectarines, which by the way, were delicious and juicy! Many artists are often inspired by gardens. Botanical illustration has been around forever, and just look at how many nature journals are out there.

Gardens are magical, healing places whether it's a small one on your kitchen windowsill, a plot of grass on your rooftop, or vast acreage filled with wildflowers and fruit trees. It's all good! So do yourself a favor and spend more time in the garden.

Ronni, I did this painting about 5 months ago. I wanted to add some still lifes to my collection. This is really so much more vibrant in person! You'll just have to come to Studio Lolo to see it!

  11. Hey Laurel,

This is so soothing and delicious! Thank you for stopping in periodically. I'm still working on my portfolio- troubleshooting browser issues, and spent a week on the east coast visiting my family last week before I make the plunge.

I hope you are healthy and happy and although, I'm not blogging I haven't forgotten you for a moment.

    Be well ~Michelle

  29. i know i commented, but it's not here, silly me must have made a mess of posting it. i love patterns because they bring conformity and therefore consistency and regularity to all things, but i also like 'higgly-piggly' things with no pattern at all (that's the two sides of my aquarian personality). hugs and wfs.

  30. I love floral prints. In high school, I probably looked like I was wearing my mothers curtains. I bet I had a shirt like your table cloth here, in blue like you've painted it. Nice job!
